Writing On My Mind

Today is the 21st of January, and writing is on my mind! Not only is our research paper due in two days, but the writing portfolio is due in just over a month... and that is something always in the back of my mind..

This class has overall helped me with my writing. I believe with the research paper due at the end of this semester and the handouts Prof. Kat gives, will benefit when critiquing my papers. It is really coming down to a point for this next month for me to concentrate on making the professors here at Eckerd impressed with my writing. In basketball terms, it is due or die for me come Feb. 27th... pass the portfolio and I graduate.. I don't even want to think about the other option!

I want to take this time to thank you Professor Kat for all the help you have given me. I know our class is only three weeks long, but all your knowledge will help me when redoing my portfolio. And I will probably try and get together with you at least one more time before the writing portfolio is due! Thanks again! Until next time.....

A Historic Day

Today, January 20th, 2009, is a historic day. The Day after MLK Jr. Day, Our 44th United States President has come to office. Times are very tough right now, and I hope this new ray of light for our country will soon see improvement. It will be interesting to see how Obama will pan out his plan. As of right now, we are in class listening to his speech. Right now he is speaking about jobs. I am a senior in college and on track to graduate after Spring semester. Everyone I have talked to says it is a horrible time to be looking for jobs. I am trying to set things up now for my future in hopes that soon the economy can improve. I have hopes that Barack Obama and his plan will work. All we have is time. Until next time...

MLK Day

Today was a beautiful day. For me, today started at 10 am with morning practice. After practice was over, we all drove to the Trop in downtown St. Petersburg for the MLK parade. I always enjoy everything that I can do to help the community. We marched in the parade for about 3 hours... (it was fun, but at the end got to the point were it wasn't anymore, lol). I am writing about this because it can intertwine with my research paper due at the end of the week. My topic deals with racism and sports. It is going to be interesting researching on varius topics about this. Dealing with the different trauma that black athletes had to go through back in the day. I am going to get on the ball and start my outline.. It is also going to be historic and interesting to watch Obama inaguration tomorrow in class. Well, until next time...

Deja Vu?

Page 64 From Caruth:
"Dreams occuring in traumatic neuroses have the characteristic of repeatedly bringing the patient back into the situation of his accident, a situation from which he wakes up in another fright. "

- When I read this passage, I could only think of what my dream was like two nights ago. I am not pleased to say, but yes, on New Years Eve this year I got jumped (or beat up if you will). Long story short, I was held down by two guys when another two were giving me body shots and a couple of hits to the face... Happy New Year huh? LOL. Anyways, two nights ago might have been Deja Vu for me. I was sound asleep when, in my dream, I was on the ground getting beat up.. The dream was just 'so real' to me.. I remembered like it was yesterday.. The last thing I remembered (in my dream before I woke up) was the face of The Joker. Yes, in my dream for some strange reason it was The Joker from Batman that was beating me up.. Ha ha.. I remember when I woke up I looked right at the clock, it was 3:30am, and looked around my room, in fear of someone being there.
-From the reading by Caruth, I thought it was very interesting that I had just experienced something that we are talking about in class.. Until next time.....

Blogspot #2

I am currently enjoying class. I like the fact that we go deep into the readings, and have to really think about what each story means. Trying to pick the brain of the author is fun and challenging to me. With that being said, I also liked going to the military museum and looking forward to the Holocaust Museum on Thursday. Most of the reading we talk about have all types of trauma in them one way or another. I especially enjoyed Hemingway's "Now I Lay Me" because I thought it was a story about friendship and how soldiers in war respond to each other. I couldn't even think about being in a war.

I enjoy listening to rap and rock music.. The song that comes to mind when thinking about trauma is the song 'Stan' by Eminem. The song takes you through a story of this guy named Stan writing Eminem fan mail. By the 2nd or 3rd verse you can tell that this guy, Stan, has something psychologically wrong with him and he takes it out on his girlfriend/wife. It is interesting to listen to how this guy deals with his trauma.. and Eminem not writing him back takes a toll on him. Anyways I am sitting in the library right now and think it is time for me to leave and go to the gym.. Just have to get my 'mind right' to lift some weights.. Until next time...

Blog #1

I am excited for our class and new information for my brain to sponge. Although, I am still having trouble with some of the technology we use. That aside, talking about all this 'trauma' has gotten to me! I think its interesting to see how people deal with horrible situations in their lives and I so far like our class discussions about it. When dealing with trauma, I know most of the things we talk about in class are terrible, but I believe talking about modern trauma such as rape and child abuse are understood more because that is whats used in modern time. I think us as students can relate to that because we see such happenings on the television screen. I think most of our society watch WAY too much TV including myself. You know, I don't really have a song in my head or a link that I can relate to any of our 'trauma drama' discussed in class.

With that said, I think I will throw my iPod on and go work out... maybe then one of my tunes will catch me and remind me of class.. Until next time... CJ out
